Egg rolls famously known locally as “lumpia” in the Philippines is a staple dish in any event or gathering.

The crunchiness of the egg roll wrap, the savory filling and the delicious dipping sauce of your liking makes it an all-time favorite appetizer by kids and grownups alike.

For some people, making this delicious appetizer can be a lot of work and cumbersome. Here in Glad Bakes and Beyond, we explain it to you in a simple step by step guide on how to make it. A set of simple instructions that even my college student son was able to make it in his apartment. His roommates loved it.

Description

Beloved famous appetizer! savory filling wrapped in crispy egg roll wrapper deep fried to perfection, normally served with a delicious dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Prepare the filling

    • Place the meat in a large mixing bowl. Make sure it is not frozen. 
    • Peel the onion and cut into at least 4 pieces and put into the food processor.
    • Peel the garlic and put into the food processor as well.
    • Add the bag of baby carrots into the food processor and process all of them together until they are chopped into small pieces.
    • Add this vegetable mixture to the meat, add salt and pepper then mix. 
    • Add the binders - which are the eggs and flour, mix until well blended.
  1. This time you are ready to wrap the egg rolls
    • Separate each egg wrapper sheets. Wrap the egg roll by using a cookie scoop, make sure the seal the edges by brushing with some water using a basting brush.
    • Once done wrapping all of them, you can place them into freezer bag as and freeze. When frozen they are good up to four months.
    • When you are ready to fry the egg rolls, they a crispier if fried frozen.
    • Fry in a deep fryer with oil at 350 degrees F. until golden brown
    Or you can deep fry in a frying pan in low to medium heat if deep fryer is not available.
    • Serve and enjoy!
    Can be served with a dipping sauce. I normally enjoy them with Pantai sweet chili sauce for egg rolls available in any Asian market or regular tomato ketchup.
